About
RockWater is a non-profit Community Entertainment Center focused on concerts, and other entertainment venues for young adults and families in the Wausau area. We began in February 1999 at Scott & 1st Street as a Coffee House/Cyber Cafe’ which, over three years, saw thousands of young people involved in our performance events including concerts, poetry slams, open mic nights and music festivals. In 2003, the City of Wausau condemned the building occupied by RockWater to make room for a downtown parking garage. Due to a lack of funds and an affordable location, RockWater has been in hibernation for almost 5 years, from March 2003 until January 2008.
RockWater had filled a niche for those who were too young or just wanted an alternative to the bar scene. Nowhere else in Central Wisconsin could they get all that RockWater provided in a healthy environment. We were their only alternative with, live music, and other good fun. The new RockWater is a little different. We are not a Coffee House or Cyber Cafe’. Today we are a Community Entertainment Center that eventually will be open every Friday & Saturday evening for concerts, movies, and other entertainment, primarily for people of all ages. Also, the facility is available for use by the people of this community on a regular weekly or monthly basis, or a one time event, at little or no cost.
We aren’t politically correct, but we’re trying our best to be “Godly Correct”: We are uncompromisingly Christian. We are not a Church, nor a youth group. Our board is made up of Christians that want to see a place in Wausau where young people and their families can come and have a good time, in a clean, wholesome environment. We are not a perfect organization, but we have left the dock.
A simple mission:
To provide a safe, positive, wholesome venue for local & imported talent, concerts, movies, games, and special events for people of all ages and organizations of Central Wisconsin.
